DPG Certification

To sell your products in Germany, have your labels printed by a DPG-certified printer

DPG certification is essential for selling deposit-return beverages in Germany. Indeed, the German market applies a deposit system to single-use bottles and cans made of glass, PET or aluminium. This system is managed by DPG Deutsche Pfandsystem GmbH. As a result, every container must carry the DPG logo printed on its label.

What is DPG certification?

DPG certification attests to compliance with the certification guidelines issued by DPG Deutsche Pfandsystem GmbH (DPG Certification Guidelines). In particular, it authorises the printer to print the DPG logo on labels. In practice, the system is based on four rules:

  • Every deposit bottle or can sold in Germany must carry the DPG logo.
  • Reverse vending machines read and detect the logo and the code printed on the label.
  • Only a DPG-certified printer is authorised to print this logo.
  • Consequently, without a compliant label, a container cannot be placed on the German market.

DPG certification: the entire chain must be certified

The entire chain must be certified in order to ensure the proper use of the DPG logo and to prevent fraud. Therefore, the printer is not the only party concerned. Your company must also be DPG-certified, or go through a company that places products on the market and is itself certified.

In practice, you send us your DPG code before printing. We then check that it is listed and validated on the DPG website. Without this validation, we cannot print the logo. This step is therefore essential, but it also protects your brand.

DPG certification: Freppel Imprimeur’s commitment to your exports to Germany

This obligation applies to all producers, including foreign companies. For example, a French or Belgian brand that wants to sell its beverages in Germany must use a certified printer. That is why Freppel Imprimeur, a Stratus Packaging Group site, has obtained DPG certification. We can therefore print the DPG logo directly on your labels. Moreover, you keep the same printer for your labels for both the French and German markets.

The benefits of DPG certification for your labels

For you, DPG certification is first and foremost a key to the German market. On the one hand, your bottles and cans carry the logo required by the deposit system. On the other hand, reverse vending machines correctly identify your containers. In addition, you do not need to find a second printer in Germany. In short, you export your beverages in full compliance, with a certified partner.
