What is PEFC™ certification?
PEFC certification (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) is the world’s largest forest certification system. It therefore guarantees that the wood and fibres used in paper and board products come from sustainably managed forests. In addition, it ensures that the environmental, economic and social functions of forests are respected.
In practice, PEFC certification is based on two complementary pillars:
- On the one hand, sustainable forest management, which commits forest owners and operators to responsible practices.
- On the other hand, chain of custody, which ensures the traceability of certified material at every stage of processing, from the forest to the finished product.

Within the Stratus Packaging group, the Stratus Freppel site holds PEFC chain of custody certification. This certification therefore confirms that the paper and board used to manufacture our labels and packaging come from sustainably managed and controlled forest sources.
In order to obtain and maintain this certification, Stratus Freppel first implemented a rigorous raw material traceability system, from supplier selection through to product delivery. Furthermore, each stage is subject to precise procedures and regular audits carried out by an independent certification body.
Moreover, this approach is part of the group’s overall environmental responsibility policy, alongside the French Imprim’Vert® label. It thus reflects our determination to control the impact of our activities, from the origin of raw materials to our printing processes.
